Saturday, November 06, 2004 First prize winners! ![]() [Update: We are in the Evening News] For the past four weeks I have been working with a talented group composed of students from not only the School of Architecture, but also Sculpture and Drawing & Painting. Ruth Bide (Drawing & Painting), Rebecca MacDonald (architecture), Martine Pugh (Sculpture) and myself today presented 'The ballet of the steel dinosaurs', an entry for a limited competition set and sponsored by RMJM and Forth Ports: "This year the competition is set in Leith Docks, Edinburgh, an area where RMJM is working with Forth Ports in order to create a new development framework. Over the next 15 years this area will be transformed to provide a mix of spaces, buildings and functions and create a vibrant extension to the city. If this is to be achieved successfully, the ‘spirit of place’ must play a significant part in the evolution of the area. The 2004 award will be presented for an idea that displays creativity and innovation in identifying and responding to genius loci."Our concept of reanimating and controlling the listed crane structures along Imperial Dock appeared to click with judges Tony Kettle, Terry Smith, Clemintine Deliss and Peter McCaughey. I'll be posting more information about the project in the near future. [RMJM news] |
